The Lions Have a Running game, Who Knew?

In this past weeks victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Lions entire offensive arsenal on display. Usually I would just be talking about Roy Williams, Mike Furrey and Co. but no, not this week. This week the Lions unveiled a whole new weapon, a running game!

Bizzare, I know but nonetheless it worked. Kevin Jones and T.J. Duckett carried the ball very effectively, racking up 106 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries between the two. The biggest surprise came from Calvin Johnson who ripped off a 32 yard TD run on an end around, easily the most exciting play of the year for the Lions offensively.

Johnson showed why he was the #2 overall pick in last year draft when on his way to the endzone he mercilessly threw Cato June to the turf with a stiff arm allowing him to break off another 30 yards and score what turned out to be the deciding touchdown in a hard fought game.

Kevin Jones seems to have reclaimed his crown as the starting running back from Tatum Bell, who registered exactly zero carries in Sunday's affair. T.J. Duckett proved that he can be a brute force when he is running at close to 100 percent, and as long as Mike Martz doesn't remember his gameplan Duckett could continue to get 5-10 carries a game and really wear down opposing defenses.

At 4-2 with a semblance of a running game our Lions could be poised for a shot at the NFC North title if this keeps up.

In Rod I trust.

This week: at Chicago (3-4)
